SAULT STE. MARIE - (January 15) - At 5:10 p.m. today, CBC Radio’s Points North program will go live with a segment on the current Monopoly Canada battle of the cities.

The show will be taking call ins from the public on why they think their community should be represented with a spot on the upcoming board game from Hasbro Canada.

Saulites can listen in at 89.5 FM and call 1-800-461-1138 during the listener feedback portion of the show.

Hasbro Canada recently announced that its upcoming Monopoly Canada board game would feature cities on it from across the country.

Places earn a spot based on its respective voting share.

Sault Ste. Marie is one of 65 cities across the country on the ballot, with the top 20 taking home their place in Monopoly history.

Fans can vote at www.monopolyvote.ca.

The deadline to cast a ballot is Feb. 7.

The city with the most votes will be placed on the highest rent property on the board, the space traditionally held by the always-lucrative Boardwalk.

Both residents and non-residents can vote, so spread the word to Sault Ste. Marie lovers everywhere.

Following the vote for the top-20 cities, a wild card stage will begin, where two spaces - ones traditionally held by Mediterranean and Baltic Avenues - are set aside for this second round of the competition.

The wild card vote will take place from Feb. 8 until Feb. 21.

The new Monopoly Canada Edition will be available in stores this summer.
