NEWS RELEASE
TARBUTT TOWNSHIP
*************************
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mayor, Christopher Burton.

Chris first became a member of Tarbutt Council in 2010. In his first term on council Chris was appointed Deputy Mayor. Prior to the end of his first term in office Chris assumed the position of Mayor following the resignation of the previous Mayor. At the next election in 2014 Chris was acclaimed in the position of Mayor a position he has retained until today.

While working tirelessly as our Mayor, Chris also held a position as Captain on the Tarbutt Volunteer Fire Department. Chris has been instrumental in helping to build our Fire Department into one of the finest in the area.

As Mayor, Chris was a solid support for staff and council through the ups and downs of Municipal life. Always seeing solutions and having a vision of what was possible, Chris led this Township to the very solid and healthy position we are in today.

During Chris’s term on council from 2010 until today the Township has seen a new office built, all year-round roads hard surfaced, new equipment for the Roads Department and new Fire trucks for the Fire Department. Chris has also been instrumental in building and maintaining our Reserves.

Chris was proud of Tarbutt Township and wanted the Township to be a leader and an example of what could be.

Under his guidance Tarbutt has always been quick to respond to helping the area in any way it could, whether it was writing letters to Ministries both Federal and Provincial, or making financial commitments to maintaining our Hospital on St Joe and supporting our seniors through the Trefry Center, Chris always insisted that we do these things and at the same time we had to also find a way to keep our tax rates down.

Chris was proud that in all his years on Council and as Mayor, every year the tax rate was lowered and our accomplishments and improvements grew.

Chris supported staff and was always available day or night for the Township. His passing has left a great void in the life of everyone he came in contact with. We were all better for having known him and worked with him.
