********************* Manitoulin man charged as accessory and obstructing justice in death of Mary Ann Davis

ZHIIBAAHAASING FIRST NATION, MANITOULIN ISLAND, ON, April 18 - Members of the United Chiefs and Council of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, Manitoulin Detachment and the OPP Northeast Region Crime Unit, are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 25-year-old Mary Ann Davis, of 340 Sagon Road, Zhiibaahaasing First Nation.

Her common-law spouse Brent Jeremy Kells, age 21 of 340 Sagon Road, Zhibaahaasing First Nation has been charged with first-degree murder.

As a result of their investigation, police have charged with one count of obstruct justice and accessory after the fact to commit murder, Robert William Kells, the father of the accused. He is to appear in court in Gore Bay on Tuesday April 18th, 2006. A preliminary hearing into the charges against Brent Kells is scheduled to begin on Monday June 5th, 2006 in the Ontario Court of Justice, Gore Bay. The investigating officer is Senior Constable Brian Ziegler of the U.C.C.M. Anishnaabe Police Service.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Larry Reesor, Criminal Investigation Branch, OPP General Headquarters, Orillia.
