Suspect spitting mad after taxi getaway from Liquidation World

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 31-year-old male and 19-year-old female on the 30th of May at 1:12 p.m. after being called to Liquidation World on Trunk Road.

It is alleged that the two attended at the store and stole a number of items and fled in a taxi.

Officers investigating the incident, located the two accused inside the taxi on Wellington Street East, located the stolen items and arrested them both.

When officers ran a check on the two they discovered that the male was on probation conditions due to a past domestic-related assault charge and was not to communicate with the female.

When the female accused was being arrested she resisted arrest, kicked and spat on the officer.

As a result, the female was charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of breach of probation, one count of resisting arrest and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

The male was charged with two counts of breach of probation and one count of theft under $5,000.

************************ Shoplifting

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18-year-old Sydney Benwell of 246 Anderson Road from Goulais River Ontario on the 30th of May at 4:30 p.m. at Canadian Tire.

It is alleged that the accused attended at the store at approximately 4:15 p.m. and stole a 19 inch LCD flat screen television.

He was apprehended by store security and held for police.

As a result he was charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on the 4th of July.

************************* Breaching release conditions

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 21-year-old Shane Yukich of no fixed address on the 30th of May at 1:30 p.m. on Queen Street East.

It is alleged that on the 30th of May at approximately 11:10 a.m., the accused attended at a local downtown office and was causing disturbance by yelling and swearing.

Officers discovered that the accused was on a recognizance order to be living at an address that he was no longer living at.

He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38-year-old male at 2:20 a.m. this morning after he turned himself in at the station on an outstanding domestic-related warrant.

He has been charged him with one count of assault, one count of mischief and one count of threatening death or bodily harm.

It is alleged that on the 30th of May the accused assaulted and threatened to kill his girlfriend at their residence. Further, the accused [allegedly] damaged a door.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 26-year-old male at 2:06 a.m. this morning and charged him with one count of assault, one count of threatening death or bodily harm and four counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that on the 31st of May at approximately 1:50 a.m., the accused got into a verbal argument with his common-law partner at their residence, assaulted her and threatened to kill her.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 30-year-old male at 1:32 a.m. this morning and charged him with one count of assault.

It is alleged that the accused was wanted for a domestic-related assault involving his ex-girlfriend that occurred on the 15th of March.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 50-year-old male at 2:45 on the 30th of May and charged him with one count of assault.

It is alleged that on the 29th of May the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend at his residence.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 21-year-old female on the 30th of May at 9:55 p.m. and charged her with four counts of breach of a release document.

It is alleged that on the 30th of May at 9:35 p.m., the accused attended at the residence of her ex-boyfriend in an intoxicated state and began to harass him.

At the time of the incident the accused was on recognizance release curfew conditions to be in her place of residence from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, and further she was not communicate with the victim, was to stay away from his residence and was to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

*********************** Break and enters

- A window at a local business in the 400 block of Albert Street West was smashed and the alarm was activated. Officers attended and did not locate anyone in the area. Nothing was reported stolen.

- A garage was broken into in the 100 block of Albert Street East. Four chrome rims and four tires were reported stolen.

- A business on Dundas Street was reported broken into sometime over the past weekend. A computer and laptop were reported stolen.

************************ Thefts - A bike was reported from a business on Old Garden River Road. A male suspect was observed fleeing on the bike and was last seen in the St. Georges Avenue area. He was described as being 15-16 years of age, wearing a red hoodie with a Rockstar logo hat.

- A cell phone left inside a vehicle on Albert Street West was reported stolen.

************************ Mischief

- A window of at a local hotel on Pim Street was reported smashed.

- A window of a truck parked on Wilson Street was smashed.
