City Police have one man in custody after a mid-afternoon robbery today at the Hard Wok Cafe near the International Bridge.

The police are currently investigating the case further and it's possible the robber may have had an accomplice.

The man was arrested shortly after the 3:26 p.m. robbery near a house at 368 Cathcart Street.

Initial information from police indicated that the man came out of the house before he was arrested.

The house was surrounded for three hours by 13 tactical officers and other uniformed police, to ensure public safety and out of fears that an accomplice or weapons might be inside.

Police say the take-out eatery was robbed by one male wearing a bandana, dark sunglasses and a hoodie over his head.

The suspect implied that he had a gun or weapon on his person.

A female store attendant fled the scene and the robber is believed to have entered the cash register and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

"No weapon was actually shown," said Police Inspector Romano Carlucci. "It was just insinuated that there was a weapon present.

The man left the Hard Wok on foot in a westerly direction.

The police investigation pointed to the Cathcart Street home, where the man surrendered without a struggle about 10 minutes after the robbery.

A dog tied on the porch barked incessantly at police during most of today's standoff.

The animal was later removed by a family member.
