FOREST FIRE SITUATION UPDATE

MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

************************* East Fire Region - August 2

The forest fire hazard remains low across the province as the result of continued cold, wet weather.

There are now about 570 Ontario fire personnel supporting the firefighting effort in British Columbia, including the 232 fire rangers, support staff and incident management team members who traveled out on the weekend.

It marks the highest number of resources from Ontario into British Columbia at one time.

Support is also being provided with fire suppression equipment including water pumps, fire hose and portable water tanks.

There have been no new fires reported in the East Fire Region for Sunday, August 2, and there are currently no active fires in the region. The fire hazard across the East Fire Region is low. Even though the fire hazard is currently low remember to check your site before you light.

Take a walk around the area; dry, crunchy vegetation can be an indication of a localized dry pocket.

Awareness of your surroundings is important when it comes to being FireSmart.
