Sunday forest fire report

New Fires

It was a busy weekend in Chapleau and Sudbury Districts with seven fires confirmed.

Five fires were confirmed on July 5.

Chapleau 6 is being held at 0.8 hectares (ha) and is located west of Kabetako Lake.

Chapleau 7 is out at 0.1 ha.

Sudbury 24 is under control at 0.4 ha and is located in Killarney Provincial Park.

Sudbury 25 is being held at 0.5 ha and is located 10 km northeast of Halfway Lake. Sudbury 26 is being held at 1.1 ha and is located east of Commodore Lake.

By the time of this report, two fires were reported today.

Sudbury 27 is under control at 0.1 ha and is located north of Old Wanup Road. 

Sudbury 28 is under control at 0.1 ha and is located southwest of Chelmsford. No issues are anticipated.

Fire Hazard

The forest fire hazard has decreased with cooler temperatures and precipitation in the forecast. The only hazard in the Northeast Region lies in the far north and south, maintaining a low to moderate hazard.

Regional Synopsis

There are currently ten active fires in the Northeast Region.

Eighty-one fires have been confirmed to date, burning a total combined area of 3,039 hectares of land.
