A sudden gust of wind tore down a City signal light pole about 1:45 p.m. yesterday in front of Top Tech Automotive on Great Northern Road.

"We were just talking about how the wind had picked up," said Top Tech Automotive owner operator Ken Lavoie. "All of a sudden we heard this big crash."

The pole came down across the parking lot, sidewalk and partly onto the street.

Lavoie grabbed his camera and snapped a few shots to send to SooToday.com after he called police.

He said it took police about 10 minutes to arrive and then another five to 10 minutes for a City crew to begin working on removing the pole.

The City crew had the damaged pole off the street and gone in a short time.

As quickly as the wind came up, it went away, said Lavoie.
