Defence lawyer Wayne Chorney told a judge Monday he has yet to receive disclosure from the Crown in the case of a Sault Ste. Marie city police officer charged with sexual assault.

Sgt. David Baskcomb, 59, wasn't present in the Ontario Court of Justice for his first scheduled court appearance since he was charged last month.

Chorney said he has spoken with the Sudbury Crown attorney's office, which is handling the prosecution, and the information isn't complete.

Local assistant Crown attorney Trent Wilson indicated the disclosure had been sent to the defence on July 27.

Justice Melanie Dunn put the matter over until Aug. 27.

Baskcomb is suspended with pay, per the Police Services Act.

Greater Sudbury Police Service announced June 28 that it had charged the Sault officer with a single count of sexual assault in connection with an alleged incident that occurred while he was off-duty.

After the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received the complaint on May 17, it asked Sudbury police to investigate the allegation.
