************************* Holiday weekend traffic blitz results in numerous traffic charges

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (September 2) - Sault Ste. Marie detachment and highway safety division officers combined efforts in traffic enforcement resulted in 108 traffic related charges.

Most charges were for speeding.

In addition, officers laid seat belt, radar warning device and no insurance charges.

One stunt driving charge for driving 145 [kilometres per hour] in a posted 90 zone was laid on Highway 17 East in MacDonald Township on September 1 at 2:42 p.m.

Charged with Stunt driving is Christina R. Belleau, age 38, of 180 White Birch Drive in Garden River.

Belleau’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and her license was suspended for seven days.

************************* Numerous animal collisions

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (September 2) - Sault Ste. Marie detachment are warning all motorist to be on the lookout for animals on the highways after five animal-related collisions over the long weekend.

Police investigated three deer, one bear and one beaver collisions.

All the animals were killed and no one was injured.

The crashes occurred on Highway 17 East and North, as well as one on Highway 552 where a beaver pulling a small tree across the road was stuck.
