Three strong earthquakes rocked the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean tonight, prompting an expanding regional tsunami warning.

Here's how the U.S. Geological Survey described the location:

- 275 km (170 miles) S of Lata, Santa Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands.

- 280 km (175 miles) NNW of Luganville, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu.

- 810 km (500 miles) ESE of Honiara, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.

- 2,100 km (1310 miles) NE of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Tonight's earthquakes were about 1,200 miles west of the Samoan Islands, where 165 people died last week in an earthquake/ tsunami.
