************************* Mackinac Bridge Authority officials remind pilots of strict Federal Aviation Administration rules regarding flights near Mackinac Bridge

July 25, 2007 - The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) today issued an urgent reminder to all aircraft pilots that it is illegal to fly under or within 500 feet of the Mackinac Bridge.

Because of two recent incidents, MBA officials are concerned that others may attempt similar flights in the near future.

"The safety of our crews (and the motorists) are of the utmost importance at all times," said MBA's Dean Steiner. "We go to great lengths to protect the bridge and inform the traveling public that it is completely safe to cross the bridge. In this case, we want to raise awareness to eliminate any aircraft activity in close proximity of the bridge."

MBA officials are working closely with the FAA investigating the recent incidents.

Maximum penalties are possible for flying within 500 feet of or under the structure. *************************
