The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is hosting workshops to create a large-scale poppy display for Veterans Week.

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is continuing to host its Crochet Poppy Workshop.

The workshop launched in May in hopes of creating a large-scale poppy display to mount to the front of the museum for Veterans Week 2023.

The display would feature poppies made by veterans, community members, youth, and associated groups with the Museum and will be installed on a large net to be mounted on the front of the building.

Among the groups included in the project are The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25, 49th Field Regiment, Lady’s Auxiliary, and local cadet groups as well as members of the community.

Workshops have been scheduled with the goal of engaging people to create poppies and encourage oral history/history sharing and recognition of service.

This project will wrap up with a commemorative event during Veteran’s Week and information such as oral histories, shared photographs, documentation of the project will be hosted on the Sault Ste. Marie Museum’s website.

Dates for the remaining workshops are:

  • July 25: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Aug. 9: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Aug. 30: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
