Longtime Detroit Red Wing star and former captain Steve Yzerman will be leaving the club for a job elsewhere in hockey.

The Hall of Famer is expected to be named general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning later today.

The Red Wings are the only team Yzerman has been with since he entered the NHL in 1983.

He was named captain during the 1986-87 season at the age of 21 and helped bring three Stanley Cups to the Motor City.

Earlier this year, Yzerman led Canada to Olympic Gold as the squad's executive director.
