United Steelworkers Local 2724 will hold three information meetings Wednesday about a tentative memorandum of agreement reached with steelmaker Algoma.

The meetings are scheduled at Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre at noon, 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on June 20.

USW Local 2724 said in a news release today that all members of the union are asked to attend and members of Local 2251 are also welcome.

After this article appeared on SooToday, Local 2251 president Mike Da Prat contacted us to say the reference to his local in today's release refers only to members of Local 2251 who are expecting to transfer to Local 2724.

The tentative agreement between Locals 2251 and 2724 and Algoma's secured creditors was reached May 9.

Local 2724 is Algoma's second-largest bargaining group, representing about 470 salaried employees including front-line supervisors, metallurgists, chemists, engineers, financial and accounting workers and information technology specialists.

Local 2251, representing Algoma's 2,200 hourly-rated workers, previously announced its information meetings, which will also take place tomorrow, separately from 2724's meetings.

No date has been set for Local 2724's ratification vote.
