St. James Street standoff ends with man being taken into custody

BATT dispatched to scene

A man was taken into police custody shortly before 2:30 p.m. today near Huron and Cathcart Streets.

About a half dozen vehicles, including the police service's ballistic armoured tactical transport (BATT) were deployed as the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) blocked off a part of St. James Street this afternoon for about two hours.

Police entered a house on the street, removed a man and took him into custody.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Cst. Sonny Spina said the man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
