BRENT ST. DENIS, MP

************************* NDP misses target again

OTTAWA - Having spent their entire federal existence in Opposition, is it surprising that the NDP is still unclear as to what their role is in the House of Commons?

Traditionally the mandate of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition and the other opposition parties is to hold the government accountable for its policies and actions.

The NDP, unclear on their role, continue to attack the Liberal Party rather than the Harper Conservatives.

The NDP does not understand that the Conservatives now form the government.

What are they afraid of?

"During the last election, the NDP vowed to make a real difference in the this Parliament. Because of their promise, Canadians gave them 29 seats in the House of Commons. As of today, the NDP has nothing to show for themselves as they continue to act as the opposition to the Liberal Party rather than to the government," said St. Denis [shown].

The NDP continue to mail brochures into ridings across the country misleading voters about the voting records of MPs.

A recent brochure hints that Brent St. Denis, MP for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, voted in favour of an extension of Canada's military role in Afghanistan and in favour of the Harper government's softwood lumber deal.

In reality, Mr. St. Denis voted against both measures.

And it is the truth that the NDP's vote in November 2005 with the Conservatives led to an election which resulted in the loss of a national daycare agreement, the loss of the historic Kelowna Accord, and the loss of an effective softwood lumber strategy.

"I understand that the NDP are low in the polls, but I do not believe that misleading Canadians will win them more seats. It only indicates that the NDP is desperate to show that as a party of protest only, their words mean more than their actions," Mr. St. Denis concluded.
