Despite the Soo Greyhounds being off, there was still plenty of hockey locally.
The nationally-ranked Soo North Stars had their mid-week game against Nickel City postponed due to the snow storm to hit much of Ontario but the GNML leaders faced North Bay on Saturday.
The Soo Thunderbirds striggled prior to thir Christmas break, losing to Sudbury at home on Friday and in overtime in Blind River the following night.
Lake Superior State hockey finsihed the first half of the season on a high with a sweep of Northern Michigan. Sault Ste. Marie native Michael Doan is a goaltender with the Wildcats.
The week opened after the North Stars, along with the Soo Thunder minor midgets and Soo Greyhounds minor bantams, saw some added success.

On the gynmastics front, a number of local competitors did Sault Ste. Marie proud at an invitational event.
