Sault Ratepayers In the Loop - You and municipal government
Online Local Surveys: Wave of the Future? 
 
The Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayers Association would like your input in their latest 10-question survey titled, “You and Your Municipal Government”, including questions like:  
 
Would you like to see other options to access council agendas, public notices and recordings of council meetings, such as through online media sites, in addition to print media and local television?
 
"With the new technology that exists today we are able to gather input, opinions and comments from citizens across the city, even when they may not be able to connect with us in person”, stated a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayers Association.  “We are very appreciative of everyone who takes a few minutes of their time to contribute their thoughts online, with regards to community matters.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayers Association meets the third Thursday of every month at the Russ Ramsay Room at City Hall (7 p.m.) and is currently seeking new members and also volunteers from each ward to contribute their input in the following three areas: Finance, Procedural and Events (summary below).
 
Events Group:
  • Respond to enquiries from the public
  • Coordination of events pertaining to Ward Group activities 
  • Planning meetings (at various levels)
  • Responsible for communicating, networking & the media
  • Coordinate with other ratepayer associations across Ontario
Finance Group:
  • Monitor the city budget & salary structure
  • Work with city staff to understand the city’s finances
  • Ask questions and be of assistance to educate the community
  • Produce a “Taxation Report Card” (city financial audit)
Procedural Group:
  • Monitor procedural conduct of council & report discrepancies
  • Dedicated to learning and then teaching all aspects of the Municipal Act and other municipal legislation
  • Learning and then teaching the procedures of council
  • Develop a working relationship with council, ministry & staff
