Soup Kitchen gets all spiffed up (6 photos)

Sault Ste. Marie's Soup Kitchen Community Centre has received more than just a tiny facelift, thanks to the initiative and efforts of members of Bethel Bible Chapel.

Calna McGoldrick, the Soup Kitchen's manager, seemed especially happy with the new service counter, as she detailed the improvements for SooToday.com during an open house this afternoon.

With help from Soo Mill and Lumber Company, Colour Your World, Island Enterprises, Sims Custom Woodworking, Lyons Tim-Br Mart, Home Depot and Staples, the folk at Bethel Bible Chapel also did wiring and heating upgrades, installed new cabinets and storage, baseboards and an exceptionally beautiful fresh coat of paint.

McGoldrick told us that it took the 100 volunteers only two weekends to complete the work.

It's the first major facelift the Soup Kichen has received in almost 20 years.

Serving 1,500 to 2,000 meals a month is only one part of the Soup Kitchen's operations.

Currently, McGoldrick is looking for members of Sault Ste. Marie's artistic community, including painters, sculptors, photographers and writers to share their abilities with those who are less fortunate.
