********************* Five inductees to be honoured at this Saturday’s Walk of Fame Ceremony

SAULT STE. MARIE – (September 17) - Five new granite maple leaves, bearing the names of the 2007 Walk of Fame inductees, are being installed this week in preparation for this Saturday’s Sault Ste. Marie Walk of Fame ceremony.

The inductees are: hockey legends Phil Esposito (shown) and Tony Esposito, softball pitcher Darren Zack, forester Harry Graham and politician John Rhodes - the latter two being recognized posthumously.

“The Walk of Fame is a great way to recognize individuals who have excelled in their accomplishments,” says Alison Walton, chair of the Downtown Association and Walk of Fame committee member.

“We’re very pleased to have a place of public recognition located in the Downtown for residents and tourists to see and appreciate,” said Walton.

Confirmation has been received that Darren Zack will be in attendance as well as family members for Harry Graham and John Rhodes attending as their respective designates.

Phil Esposito and Tony Esposito are unable to attend due to previous commitments, however, their sister Terry and Angelo Bumbacco will serve as their designates.

The five inductees will be honoured at a special ceremony this Saturday, September 22 at the Steelback Centre.

The ceremony will take place near the entry at the northwest corner of the building.

In the event of poor weather, the ceremony will be held on the main level inside the doors.

“Inductees to the Walk of Fame are people whose names have been put forth by members of the community as examples of outstanding accomplishment and who are considered to be ambassadors of our community,” said Udo Rauk, CAO and co-chair of the Walk of Fame committee.

“We’re encouraging people to come out on Saturday and show the continuance of support for these individuals’ achievements,” Rauk said.

Each year, inductees are recognized for outstanding achievement in one (or more) of the following areas: athletic, cultural, academic or humanitarian achievement, outstanding contribution to community business, environment, sports, science or entertainment.

The Walk of Fame committee reviews public submissions and selects a maximum of five inductees.

Inductees are honoured with a 16” x 16” granite maple leaf stone embedded in concrete on the north side of the Steelback Centre on Queen Street East.

Nominations for the 2008 Walk of fame inductees will be solicited from the public early in the New Year.

The Walk of Fame is an annual event and is a joint project between the City of Sault Ste. Marie and the Downtown Association.
