EDITOR'S NOTE: A modest number of SooToday readers have seen this image before. We publishing it briefly on a quiet weekend at the end of March, to illustrate our preview of City Council activities the following week. Unfortunately, that was right around the time that Ward 6 Councillor Peter Vaudry (shown as our digitally manipulated cover girl) was taken to hospital with angina, causing us to scramble to quickly remove the feature. Now that Councillor Vaudry's again healthy as a horse, and with City Council preparing for another joyous chinwag on Monday, we've decided to do the environmentally responsible thing and recycle the swimsuit edition for the further enjoyment of our readers and ongoing annoyance of local politicians.

The following is a preview of some of the coverage we're planning for you over the weekend. All SooToday news line-ups are subject to change because Helwig pretty much does what he pleases on weekends and Amnesty International advises we may no longer chain him to his desk.

Stuff we're kinda sorta thinking of posting this weekend

- What's City Hall done for you lately? On Monday night, City Council is expected to pass a $169,647 program for re-ditching. That's $40,000 more than originally budgeted, with the new money added out of concern over West Nile Virus. Is your street on the proposed work list for 2003? We're planning to post the whole list so you can see for yourself. We're also hoping to post the complete 2003 lists for this summer's Street Resurfacing and Class B Street Reconstruction programs. Class B Streets are those that have roadside ditches instead of storm sewers, curbs and gutters. They're not allowed to make them like that anymore, and our list will show what streets are likely to get upgraded to Class A status this year.

- Is WestJet really doing that badly in Sault Ste. Marie? Or is the airline's pull-out really more of a political ploy to pressure the federal government on tax issues? What can City Council do about the situation?

- Is it time to pull the plug on the V.E. Greco and Peter G. Manzo pools? Or should we pay the big bucks City officials say are needed to save them?

- Should the City provide $5,000 worth of snow-fencing, bleachers, parking lot pylons, traffic barricades and other free stuff to allow the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club to host next month's Northern Ontario Open Golf Tournament?

- What's the latest poop on those yucky overflows at the Northern Avenue Sewage Pump Station near Prince Charles School?
