It's not often that politicians of any stripe attain the lofty standard of eloquence needed to earn the honour of SooToday.com's Quote of the Day.

But we're pleased to report that Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown did so Tuesday with flying colours, adopting former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole's endearing habit of referring to himself in public proclamations as "Bob Dole" instead of "me," "myself" or "I."

SooToday is pleased to recognize the following stirring example of self-effacing humility, taken verbatim from a news release issued by Brown this evening.

**************************************************************** "Mr. Brown's rural rate assistance bill and other proactive measures are beginning to result in limited relief for the beleagured GLP customers." - direct quote attributed to Mike Brown in a Mike Brown news release, 6:34 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2003

**************************************************************** UPDATE: SooToday News heard today from Mr. Brown's assistant Craig Hughson, who sends the following explanation:

Good morning, Mr. Helwig:

Wow, one misplaced quotation mark and it makes the news, please find enclosed a revised version of the newsworthy paragraph.

Have a nice day.

Regards, Craig Hughson

Mr. Brown's rural rate assistance bill and other proactive measures are beginning to result in limited relief for the beleagured GLP customers.

"Clearly the Eves government needs to act and act quickly to deal comprehensively with this difficult situation," said Brown.
