Soo Theatre lights Ashmun with 1940 marquee in Sault Mich.

SAULT STE. MARIE MICH - The Soo Theatre's fully restored 1940 marquee made its grand debut in January, returning this month to brighten Ashmun Street once again.

The smiling faces of theatre actors, musicians, donors, and other community members shined like never before under new 1.1 watt LED and neon bulbs, which popped on at 6 p.m. Friday evening. 

All were joined by Sault Ste Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau staff, Sault Area Chamber of Commerce members, Justin Knepper of Knepper Development Strategies, and Soo Theatre Executive Director Colleen Arbic. It was Arbic who cut the scarlet ribbon in front of her community.

"Thank you to everyone who has volunteered time and donated money over the years to keep the Soo Theatre Project moving forward," Arbic said. 

She pointed to a list of donors on the building's exterior, thanking each and every one for their continued support. But it this theatre project is far from over.

"Next on the schedule this spring and summer will be restoring the old storefronts, replacing doors, and repairing bricks in the auditorium," Arbic said, reminding everyone that continued donations are needed to fully revive a theatre that entertained previous generations, including soldiers of World War II."
