Some city services closed Monday for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a number of facilities and services operated by the City of Sault Ste. Marie will be closed on Oct. 2.

These include seniors centres, the Civic Centre and the city landfill.

No garbage collection will take place on Oct. 2 and collection for the remainder of the week will be one day late.

A full list of city operations follows:  

The following city facilities will be closed Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation statutory holiday:
    •    City Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot
    •    Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site
    •    GFL Memorial Gardens office and box office
    •    Public Works office. For 24-hour emergency service, call 705-759-5201
    •    Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre
    •    Sault Transit main office is closed
    •    Seniors Centres – Bay Street Active Living Centre and Northern Community Centre Seniors 55+

No garbage, leaf and yard waste or recycling pickup on Monday, Oct. 2. Collection for the remainder of the week will be one day late.

Leaf and Yard Waste is collected on your scheduled garbage day every second week. To view the Leaf and Yard Waste collection calendar, visit the website.

The city’s landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot will be closed Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. For more information, visit the website or call Public Works at 705-759-5201.

The following facilities and services are open and operating Monday, Oct. 2:
    •    Cemetery main office will be open
    •    James L. McIntyre Centennial Library and the North Branch Library will be open
    •    Regular transit and Parabus service will operate
    •    Arenas will be open (John Rhodes, GFL Memorial Gardens and Northern Community Centre)
    •    John Rhodes pools are open for regular programming
    •    Northern Community Centre
