Software testing firm grows lottery and gaming cluster in Sault Ste. Marie

Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) has announced today that PLATO Testing will establish a software testing lab in Sault Ste. Marie, creating as many as 60 IT testing jobs in the region.

As one of the largest IT testing firms in Canada, PLATO Testing, with its parent, PQA, currently offers software testing solutions for websites, mobile apps, security, performance and automation for familiar brands in the Gaming, Financial Services, Healthcare, Telecommunications, Government and e-Learning industries.

PLATO addresses the technology talent shortage in Canada by bringing training that leads to meaningful employment to Indigenous people across Canada.

Peter Bruijns, Executive Director for SSMIC, is energized by the significance of PLATO’s expansion into the region. “SSMIC continues to drive diversification and growth of the IT economy in Sault Ste. The establishment of a PLATO office in Sault Ste. Marie represents two years of partnership development and business attraction work by UP, SSMIC’s lottery and gaming cluster development initiative.

“One of the biggest challenges in establishing a new office is lining up work, talent and support,” said Keith McIntosh, PLATO Founder and CEO. “We’ve had really good support in Sault Ste. Marie, from the UP team, to the City, and on the talent front with local First Nations and Metis Nations. It certainly seems that we’re welcome there, so we’re excited about the possibilities.”

With the support of UP, PLATO has begun preliminary recruitment activities and will immediately intensify those efforts to enable operations to begin later this year.
