Ward 1 Coun. Sandra Hollingsworth was assigned some new provincial responsibilities this week.

At a meeting of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) on Wednesday, Hollingsworth, a registered nurse, was appointed to represent the organization on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario health task force.

She was also appointed as FONOM's representative on Northern Ontario School of Medicine's nominations and community relations committee.

"Sandra's experience working in the health field will be a benefit for our members," said FONOM president Danny Whalen from the City of Temiskaming Shores.

In addition to having a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN), Hollingsworth also has a Bachelor of Economics degree.

Her curriculum vitae includes time as charity manager at the College of Family Physicians of Canada, as well as service at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Annapolis (Maryland) Tourism Bureau and her family's business, Soo Mill and Lumber.

Hollingsworth was first elected to Sault Ste. Marie City Council during a byelection on Feb. 2, 2016 in which she was the top vote-magnet in a busy field that included Luke Dufour, Susan Milne, Jody Curran, Les Weeks, John Duke, David Poluck, Ron Schinners and Andy Martens.

The byelection occurred after then-councillor Terry Sheehan puddle-jumped to federal politics.
