The speed limit on all Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs snowmobile trails is 50 kilometres an hour.

Yesterday, Ontario Provincial Police clocked 49-year-old Adrian Winterton of Greenwood, Ontario whipping 130 kmh down a trail near Sault Ste. Marie.

The OPP Traffic and Marine Unit, stationed at the OPP's Sault detachment, was conducting radar patrols.

Last week, a 52-year-old man from Leamington, Ontario was killed in a collision on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs D107 Trail between the D-Line and the F & G Line.

Yesterday, OPP headquarters in Orillia issued a warning asking snowmobilers to slow down.

So far this season, we've had 19 snowmobile fatalities in Ontario.

That's essentially where we were this time last season, but police are noticing that excessive speed has been a major contributing factor in many of this year's deaths.
