Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

Snow squalls are expected to develop Sunday morning.

Hazards:
Lake effect snow off of Lake Superior with snowfall rates of 10-15 cm over 12 hours possible.
Reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Snow covered and icy roads.

When:
Sunday morning into Monday.

Discussion:
A sharp cold front will move through the area early Sunday morning ushering in very cold Arctic air. Snow squalls are expected to develop over Lake Superior later Sunday morning and finally taper off Monday afternoon.

Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Road closures are possible.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
