Snorkeller drowns in Espanola

************************* ESPANOLA, ON – Yesterday at approximately 3:35 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a missing swimmer on Apsey Lake in Espanola.

The Espanola OPP, Espanola Fire Department, and Espanola Police Service attended and an immediate search was conducted.

An OPP marine unit continued to search into the evening, however the swimmer was not located.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Scarborough man had been snorkelling on the lake.

Witnesses reported the man slipped beneath the water and did not resurface.

The search by the OPP marine unit continued throughout the day todsy.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., OPP divers with the OPP underwater search and recovery unit (USRU) recovered the body of the missing man.

A post-mortem will be conducted at Sudbury Regional Hospital on Monday.

The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending further notification of next of kin.

The investigation is continuing.
