Several 911 calls sent Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services to a 3.5 storey apartment building on the 300 block of Lake Street Friday evening,
Platoon Chief Richard Pihlaja said the calls came in around 9:20 p.m.
Four trucks were dispatched but two were turned around once the cause was discovered — a pot on the stove had filled an apartment with smoke and a bit went into the hallways said Pihlaja.
Several tenants, with their children and pets, evacuated the building and watched from the parking lot as firefighters set up fans to ventilate the building.
Pihlaja said there was no damage to the building.
“Keep an eye on what you're cooking is the best approach,” said Pihlaja.
