SAULT STE. MARIE FIRE SERVICES

**************************** Late night cooking fire

At approximately 1:35 a.m. on August 26, Fire Services responded to a report of a possible fire in the 600 block of Sherbourne St.

When fire crews arrived, smoke was showing from the side door of the home.

Firefighters entered and safely removed the sleeping occupant who had not reacted to the activated smoke alarm.

A pan had been left on the stove which created the smoke.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services would like to remind the public that cooking late at night can be a dangerous practice that has resulted in many injuries and fatalities over the years.

Fire Services would also like to remind the public that, the Ontario Fire Code requires working smoke alarms on every story of the home, including basements.
