Slight uptick in hospitalizations, active COVID cases rise: APH

The number of hospitalizations in the Algoma region rose by one on Wednesday in the latest data update from Algoma Public Health.

APH is reporting 21 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19, up from 20 on Tuesday while the health unit is also reporting nine patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons, which is up by two.

The number of ICU patents with confirmed COVID-19 remained steady at four while the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons was two in Wednesday's update and also remained unchanged from Tuesday.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the region increased by 17 to 426 in Wednesday's update as the number of confirmed cases in Algoma rose by 62 overall.

The total number of confirmed cases in the region in 2022 is 4,800 and 7,004 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of resolved cases is up by 45 to 6,578.

The number of completed tests in the region since the beginning of the pandemic is 251,242, which is up by 301 since Tuesday.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
