Searchmont looking forward to opening later this week!

Unseasonal temperatures have further delayed opening of Searchmont this Holiday.

Searchmont is now looking at late this week as the earliest possible opening day.

“It is extremely difficult to predict when opening day will be with the constant fluctuation in temperatures we have been experiencing,” says Dan Missere, general manager of the Searchmont Ski Association Inc.

Snowmakers were able to produce some quality snow beginning Thursday afternoon but were forced to shut down operations on Saturday as temperatures climbed quickly.

Temperatures at Searchmont have remained around freezing for the past couple of days but are expected to drop significantly on Tuesday afternoon.

“With the cold front rolling in tomorrow we are hopeful we will be able to start getting terrain open by weeks end,” says Missere.

For snowmaking to be effective, temperatures of -5 or colder and low humidity levels are ideal.

Daily updates on opening and all things Searchmont can be found by visiting here.

In operation for over 50 years, Searchmont is the major winter tourist attraction with an estimated economic impact of $5.4 million to our community and providing support for 135 local jobs.

Searchmont promotes active living to children through recreational, competitive and educational programming and events and is an important lure for the recruitment of medical and other professionals to the area.

Searchmont is designated as an official training centre by Alpine Ontario
