Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area residents are invited to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and gender-diverse people during a vigil taking place tomorrow evening.

The Sisters in Spirit Vigil, led by Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), is a national event observed in several communities from coast to coast.

Locally, the vigil, led by the Indigenous Women’s Anti-Violence Task Force (IWAVTF) in collaboration with the Bawaating Anishinabekwewok and the Nimkii-Naabkawagan Family Crisis Shelter, will take place at 6 p.m. at the west side of the SSM boardwalk.

The event will consist of a Semaa ceremony, drum songs, prayer and a candlelight vigil.
