Sign of summer: Load restrictions on city streets end this weekend

Load restrictions are put in place during spring thaw, when road damage across the city is most likely to occur

Load restrictions on city streets will be lifted this weekend.

In a release, the City of Sault Ste. Marie announced that reduced load restrictions on local streets (5 tonnes per axle) will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, April 14.

Load restrictions are put in place during spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur. Now that warmer temperatures are here to stay — fingers crossed — the load restrictions are coming to an end.

Fun fact: Last year, load restrictions in town weren't lifted until May 7, more than three weeks later than this spring.
