SAULT STE MARIE PUBLIC LIBRARY

*************************
The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board is pleased to announce that the Board has appointed Cindy Weir as CEO/Director of Public Libraries.

Ontario Library Services – North (OLS - N) provided professional expertise in coordinating the search, with the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board selecting and successfully engaging Weir.

Cindy Weir has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Extensive library experience is one of the assets Weir brings with her, having worked in a variety of positions from Children’s Librarian to CEO in cities and towns around the province and in Saskatchewan.

She has also served as the manager of client services for Ontario Library Service – North, overseeing the consultants who provide assistance to libraries in the north.

Active in library service on the provincial level, Weir has participated on a number of committees and held several volunteer positions with the Ontario Library Association (OLA) including former President of the Ontario Public Library Association (OPLA).

She is also a recipient of the Children’s Librarian of the Year award presented by OPLA.

She is a member of the Ontario Public Library Guidelines Monitoring and Accreditation Council as the representative for the Association of Medium Sized Public Libraries (AMPLO).

Weir says “I am honoured to be working for the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library. This library is truly a meeting place for the community with a dedicated staff who provide that friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of customer-led service.”

Cindy and her husband Bill are pleased to be moving to Sault Ste. Marie and will enjoy the gorgeous scenery on their motorcycle, the Greyhound games, local theatre and beautiful Lake Superior.

The Board wishes to thank the Library Staff and Management for their support and especially acknowledges the outstanding efforts of Mark Jones who has served as Acting CEO/Director during transition this past year.

The Board anticipates working with Cindy to continue providing excellence to our citizens, patrons and staff as we plan for our future.
