Soon-to-be Sault MP Terry Sheehan spoke today with Kalyan Ghosh, chief executive officer of Essar Steel Algoma Inc.

"He was open and transparent about what is transpiring," Sheehan said.

"The CEO seems to have a firm grasp of the restructuring process. They have not made any request to me."

Sheehan, who will be sworn in later this month, says he will meet Ghosh face-to-face later this week, "to delve into this matter and offer my assistance as need be."

"It’s very important to me," Sheehan said of Essar's current difficulty.

"I’m going to be there with them. We’re going to have to be very optimistic about their ability to restucture and continue to operate this facility

Sheehan said he's confident because Essar Steel is one of the world's most efficient steelmakers.

Essar Steel Algoma disclosed today that it is seeking protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.
