NEWS RELEASE
TERRY SHEEHAN, MP SAULT STE. MARIE

OTTAWA - Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, has been appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on International Trade.

Several factors contributed to Sheehan being offered this opportunity: Sault Ste. Marie being a Canada/U.S. border town, extensive experience and knowledge of business and economic development, and Sheehan’s recent high-level work and advocacy for Canada’s steel industry.

Sheehan has affectionately become known as the “Steel Guy” for taking the lead on battling the U.S. imposed 25 per cent tariff on Canadian steel. Mr. Sheehan has always worked to advocate for all industries affected by tariffs but has become the authoritative voice in Ottawa on the steel industry.

After being asked to attend and participate in several important meetings of the International Trade committee this past year, it was clear MP Sheehan would be an asset to the committee and its work in ensuring Canada thrives through trade on the international stage.

“I look forward to working even closer with the Minister and the rest of the Committee on the very important International Trade file.  Trade is critical to the growth of the economy of Sault Ste. Marie and for the entire country,” said Terry Sheehan, M.P.

This week, the International Trade Committee worked to complete their report on the study of Bill C-79:

“An Act to implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) between Canada, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.”

Sheehan maintains his role as Northern Ontario Liberal Caucus chair, co-chair of the All-Party Steel Caucus and member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
