Shaw Milling to buy former Deresti Motors lot

Sault Ste. Marie City Council will be asked tomorrow night to approve the sale of 276 Wellington Street East to neighbour Shaw Milling Ltd. Council decided in April to declare the City-owned surplus and to offer it for sale.

Sault Ste. Marie City Council will be asked tomorrow night to approve the sale of 276 Wellington Street East to neighbour Shaw Milling Ltd.

Council decided in April to declare the City-owned surplus and to offer it for sale.

Shaw Milling offered $35,000 for the property.

Another prospective purchaser offered $11,000.

Deresti Motors leased the lot from 2001 until its recent move to Wellington Street West at the underpass.

Before that, the property was used by the Sault Home Builders Association.

The resolution to be presented to City Council tomorrow allows Shaw to move the billboard on the north side of the property to the northwest corner, after the City has removed a building currently on the site.
