Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Sault and points east

The following weather advisory was issued by Environment Canada at 10:45 a.m. today.

Similar warnings are in effect for the Greater Sudbury, North Bay, West Nipissing and Kirkland Lake, New Liskeard Temagami regions.

Marie - St. Joseph Island - Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Agawa - Lake Superior Park - Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake - Blind River - Thessalon - Manitoulin Island - Espanola - Killarney - Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake - Gogama - Foleyet - issued 10:45 AM EDT Monday 24 July 2006.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.

An upper disturbance will combine with a moist and unstable airmass to trigger scattered thunderstorm activity over the above regions.

Some of these storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds torrential downpours and large hail.

The threat will end this afternoon near Lake Superior but will persist into this evening further east.
