Severe thunderstorm watch issued for much of Algoma

An Environment Canada severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Agawa - Lake Superior Park - Wawa - Pukaskwa Park - White River - Dubreuilville - Chapleau - Missinaibi - Gogama - Foleyet.

Following is the official watch statement as of 7 p.m. this evening.

************************* Severe thunderstorms possible early this evening.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.

A northeast to southwest line of thunderstorms is extending across northeastern Ontario.

These storms will generally produce small hail and strong wind gusts but there is a potential that some of the thunderstorms can reach severe limits with large hail close to 2 centimetres in diameter and brief damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h.

There is the potential for severe thunderstorms to form over the extreme northwestern corner of Ontario late this evening with main threats being potentially damaging wind gusts and large hail.
