************************* Firearms complaint

Last night at 11:30 p.m., members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were called to a residence in the central part of the city regarding a firearm complaint.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., City Police officers arrested a 46-year-old male for possession of a dangerous weapon, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

It is alleged that the accused was involved in an argument with family members and at that time got a firearm and was pointing and handling it carelessly.

It is further alleged that the accused was not authorized to possess firearms.

As a result of the arrest, City Police seized seven firearms from the residence.

The accused is charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, one count of careless use of a firearm and one count of unauthorized possession of firearms.

************************* Theft under $5,000

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 39-year-old male for theft and breach of probation.

It is alleged that at approximately 2:20 p.m., the accused entered the LCBO store in the Station Mall and attempted to steal three bottles of vodka.

The accused was prevented from doing so by store staff and he left.

It is further alleged that the accused then entered the HMV store and stole some DVDs.

At this time he was apprehended by mall security and turned over to the City Police.

Clinton Perrault, age 39, of 319 Albert Street East is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and five counts of breach of probation.

************************* Mischief

Yesterday morning, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 27-year-old male for mischief.

It is alleged that at approximately 8 a.m., the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and kicked in her door.

Police attended and arrested the accused.

The accused is charged with one count of mischief.

************************ Four-year-old child assaulted

Yesterday morning members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 25-year-old male on a warrant.

It is alleged that between August 1 2008 and December 20 2010 the accused assaulted his girlfriend on five different occasions and his four-year-old son on one occasion. Further it is alleged that during this time period the accused assaulted his girlfriend by throwing a soap dispenser at her, threatened and forcibly confined her.

The accused is charged with six counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of forcible confinement and one count of threatening.

The victims did not seek medical attention as a result of the assaults.

************************* Accessory after the fact

Yesterday morning, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 21-year-old male for being an accessory after the fact.

It is alleged that at approximately 9 a.m. yesterday morning, City Police attended at the accused person’s residence with information that a wanted person was at that residence.

The accused refused to co-operate with police and denied that the wanted person was at his residence.

A warrant was obtained and police subsequently located the wanted male.

The accused, Benoit Mallet, age 21, of 25 Wellington Street West Apartment 2 is charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact.

Mr. Mallet is to appear in court on January 31 at 9 a.m.

************************* Theft

- Approximately 30 used car batteries were stolen from a storage shed in the 400 block of Great Northern Road.

- A vehicle was entered in the 900 block of Queen Street East. Personal papers, cash keys were stolen

- Two males entered the Mac’s Mart on Dacey Rd and stole a quantity of confectionary items. The suspects are described as: male, Anishinabek, mid 20s. One is six feet tall. The second is about 5’10”. Both were wearing dark jackets and black pants. The suspects were last seen walking north on Dacey Rd at approximately 5:40 p.m.
