Work continues on a washout of Second Line West in Gros Cap, which is threatening Sault Ste. Marie's main water intake.

Crews from the city, PUC and MTO are determining the best course of action to proceed.

A new culvert may be placed under the road while the work is being completed.

“This work will probably be a couple of days,” said Giordan Zin, a PUC spokesperson around five o'clock Saturday.

The water line in question provides the city with roughly 50 percent of its drinking water supply.

This leaves many Gros Cap residents who live on the wrong side of the culvert in a difficult position. Many are parking their cars on the city side so as not to get stuck when the road is closed entirely.

“We are still working to redirect the water. That has been out big concern right now,” said Zin.

The road was still open to one lane of traffic as of Zin's last visit Saturday afternoon.

MTO officials were contacted but did not immediately return phone calls.
