************************* Searchmont Resort closes as originally scheduled

After much deliberation, Searchmont Resort will close as originally scheduled ending a successful season. While conditions are good, recent skier visits and the potential for financial loses from continuing to operate for another weekend were the main reasons for the decision.

Volatile weather also influenced the decision.

“Volatile weather forecasts combined with uncertain projected attendance influenced the decision of the Searchmont board,” stated David Hornstein, SSAI media contact. “As an avid skier, I understand the wish to stay open longer but we [the board of directors] must be responsible in the operation of this non-profit business. It boiled down to an unacceptable risk of financial losses.”

Searchmont Resort saw a significant increase in skier visits this season and expects to close the season with an operating profit.

“There is still much to be done,” says Hornstein. “We continue to chip away at financial challenges resulting from the significant capital investments made over the past three years. Our profit this year will speak well for the Resort moving forward. We have made great strides this year but it’s a very demanding operation with difficult decisions to be made on a regular basis. We look forward to further improving the health of the resort and thank the community for their support and understanding.”

Searchmont Resort is currently selling 2008/2009 season passes and has introduced a new extended payment plan.
