Searchmont Resort will not be making snow this season.

The announcement was made via social media Monday.

Searchmont Resort says the decision to not begin its usual snowmaking process is due to "the significant cost and so many variables surrounding the coronavirus."

The resort will review the condition of the ski hill if it receives enough natural snow to open.

"Any plans in regards to potentially opening will be based on the COVID-19 situation at that time and what restrictions are currently in place. Please note, however, that our accommodation rentals will not be available this season due to renovations and season passes are not being sold at this time," reads a social media post issued by the resort Monday. "We thank you for your continued support and would like everyone to know that we hope to be able to support the local community by providing a fun outdoor activity this winter, the outcome of which now depends on the pandemic situation and what Mother Nature decides to provide us with this season – think snow!"
