Searchmont opens Friday, sooner than any slope in Ontario (except one bunny hill)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for skiers and snowboarders.

Searchmont Resort is opening for the season this Friday, November 24, with two chair lifts and five trails available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. all weekend.

The remaining trails and lifts are expected to open as the season progresses.

“We proudly lead the way as the first to open in both Michigan and Ontario, consistently delivering the optimal conditions throughout the entire season,” said Steve Spiessman, the resort’s general manager, in a news release. 

“With the longest season in the region, Searchmont stands out not just for its impressive statistics but for a unique and unmistakable atmosphere that sets it apart from any other destination."

Technically, Searchmont isn't the first ski hill to open. Last week, a resort in Thunder Bay managed to make enough snow to open its bunny hill.

Grab your gear and mark your calendars! Searchmont Resort is thrilled to announce a much-anticipated opening day to the 2023-2024 ski and snowboard season of Friday, November 24th.

First chair is scheduled for 9:00 am and offers the perfect opportunity to dust off your gear, feel the crisp mountain air, and make those first turns of the season. 2 chair lifts and 5 trails will be available until 4:00 pm with early season pricing of $30 lift tickets and $30 rental packages. Ages 5 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. The learning centre will be open as well with the Lumberjack belt available. The remaining trails and lifts are expected to open quickly as the season progresses.

The celebration continues through the weekend with operations scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. With a host of new features and upgrades including a newly renovated dining area and heated outdoor patio, the resort is excited for another early opening.
