School bus rear-ended

Nicole Farrell of Sault Ste. Marie has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with following too closely after a vehicle she was driving collided with a school bus, local OPP report.

The collision took place on Highway 556 in Aweres Township around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, January 16.

Farrell was driving eastbound in a 1998 Ford Explorer on Highway 556 when she reportedly rear-ended a stopped school bus with its lights activated.

While Farrell's vehicle needed to be towed, no injuries to the students or drivers were reported.

************************* OPP investigate nine motor-vehicle collisions

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (January 19) - OPP officers from the Sault Ste. Marie detachment investigated nine motor-vehicle collisions on local area highways between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

One of the collisions, Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. sent one female driver to hospital.

Both vehicles, a 2008 Pontiac Vibe and a 1998 Cadillac were travelling northbound on Highway 17 just before the Goulais River Bridge.

The female driver of the Pontiac Vibe lost control while slowing down causing the vehicle behind to strike her vehicle.

Both vehicles had to be towed.

No charges were laid.

************************* Stolen vehicle recovered in snowbank

HIGHWAY 17, MONTREAL MINING CO. TOWNSHIP, ON - (January 19) - A call for a vehicle impeding snow removal on Highway 17, 10 kilometres north of Pancake Bay ended up to be stolen vehicle.

The 1998 black Honda Civic had been reported stolen on the 13th of January from Cougartown, Alberta.

There was no one around the vehicle.

************************* Cottage break-in

RANGER LAKE, ON - (January 19) - A camp on Ranger Lake Road was entered into sometime within the past week.

Stolen items include a power ice auger, radio, fishing gear, a Coleman lantern, and waterproof backpack with more fishing gear, two shovels, a skill saw, and an echo fireplace fan.

************************* Out on the trails

OFSC D TRAILS, ON - (January 19) - OPP officers with the highway safety division and STOP officers were out patrolling the trails this weekend.

Four snowmobilers were charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act for not having a trail permit - a fine that if convicted will cost $240.

One snowmobile driver was charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act for failing to display registration numbers.
