Sault’s elusive moose on the loose spotted again in Fort Creek

‘It was exciting’: SooToday reader Maureen Scott captured new photos of well-documented moose in her Westridge Road backyard yesterday

The Sault’s increasingly famous moose is still on the loose.

SooToday reader Maureen Scott sent in several photos she took of the animal while inside her Westridge Road home in the Fort Creek area yesterday.

Scott spotted the moose chewing on some flowers in her garden before it wandered off down the gully behind her house around 2 p.m. on Friday.

“It was pretty big,” she said. “I came around to the kitchen and I thought, ‘What the heck is this big moose doing in my backyard?’ If I had come into the kitchen five minutes later, I would have missed it.”

“It was exciting,” Scott added. “I called everybody and sent pictures.”

The moose has made local headlines in recent weeks as residents in the central part of town have been sharing photos of the furry mammal.

Two weeks ago, crews with the Ministry of Natural Resources attempted to relocate the moose back to the forest, but the animal left the area uninjured.

Although it doesn't happen very often, moose are known to venture into town.

“The only time I had seen a moose was during a drive back from Thunder Bay with my husband years ago,” Scott said. “My cousins in southern Ontario said, ‘Well now we know you live in the north.’ ”
