Originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Vincent Landay, grandson of V.E. Greco (of V.E. Greco pool fame), recently went where the wild things are.

Literally.

Landay is one of nine producers of the box-office smash adaptation of of Maurice Sendak's 1963 children's classic Where the Wild Things Are.

Directed and adapted for the screen by Spike Jonze, Where the Wild Things Are earned more than $32.5 million in Canada and the U.S. in its opening weekend.

Even U.S. President Barak Obama has seen the film with daughters Malia and Sasha, media outlets are reporting.

President Obama praised the film today during a visit to an elementary school in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Where the Wild Things Are is not Landay's first Hollywood success.

Nor is it his first experience working with Spike Jonze.

Landay helped produce Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, both of which were directed by Jonze.

In 2000, Being John Malkovich was awarded an Independent Spirit Award for best first feature, an honour Landay shared with Jonze and co-producer Michael Stipe.

The film also won a Producers Guild Award Vision Award the same year.

Where the Wild Things Are is currently showing at Galaxy Cinemas in the Station Mall at 6:45 and 9:40 p.m.
